Living — and Thriving — with Diabetes

PPD Diabetes Heroes

Every year, the PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon is held in Wilmington, N.C., to shine a spotlight on the importance of clinical research in delivering new medicines and therapies to improve health and save lives.

The demanding nature of the triathlon mirrors the journey patients face as they battle back from disease and illness—forging a path to health and wellness.

Meet Vic and Meg, two of our PPD Beach2Battleship heroes who embark on that journey every day.

Vic Kinnunen

Vic Kinnunen

Vic Kinnunen has been living with Type 1 diabetes for more than 36 years. And, during that time, he has fought. Fought to not be seen as different. Fought to learn more and do more about his condition. Fought for a better life for his daughter, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2011. Vic is a fighter—and a winner. Learn more about Vic and the hope he has for finding a cure.

Meg Roberts

Meg Roberts

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 10 years old, Meg Roberts is grateful. She’s grateful that she’s living with diabetes now rather than 100 or even 50 years ago when there was little hope for a cure. And she’s grateful that research has made it possible for her to manage her condition successfully. Learn more about Meg and how she’s leading an inspired life of gratitude.
