Small Molecule Experience

PPD® Laboratories bioanalytical lab has worked with more than 2,200 different small molecule compounds.

PPD® Laboratories’ bioanalytical lab has been contributing to the development of traditional small molecule pharmaceuticals for three decades. Our bioanalytical lab in Middleton, Wisconsin, is dedicated to small molecule studies while our Richmond, Virginia, location supports small molecules and biologics. We offer comprehensive bioanalytical services for small molecule development including:

  • Custom pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) assay development, transfer and validation
  • Sample analysis in multiple biological species and matrices
  • Metabolite identification
  • Mass spectrometry
  • Liquid chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • High resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)
  • High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC)
  • Paragraph IV first-to-file for generic drug development

Chromatography for Small Molecules

The bioanalytical lab has an extensive list of validated chromatographic assays to support bioequivalence, drug-drug interaction and other types of studies. The lab is equipped with several instrumentation platforms including systems from Sciex, Waters and Thermo Scientific. The collection of instrumentation includes more than 100 LC/MS systems, nearly a dozen multiplexing systems and approximately 30 UHPLC systems. The lab also has robotic liquid handling systems from Hamilton and Tecan to ensure precision and accuracy across large studies.

Our expertise includes:

  • Ultra-sensitive methods which are especially useful for inhaled delivery products
  • Chiral assays
  • Protein binding assays with equilibrium dialysis
  • Unusual matrices and a variety of tissues
  • Difficult, reactive and endogenous compounds
