Madison, Wisconsin, is a youthful, family-friendly capital city that is consistently ranked as a top place to live in the U.S. Close to Madison, is its suburb of Middleton and the home to PPD® Laboratories’ GMP lab, the largest GMP laboratory in North America. The lab has been based in the area for nearly 30 years, and its employees are eager to praise it and its surroundings.
When chatting with Middleton colleagues, it’s clear that the opportunity for career development isn’t the only aspect that draws individuals to PPD Laboratories’ GMP lab. It’s also their love of the area and proximity to Madison.
“The city is absolutely beautiful, especially our capital building,” said McKenzie Matson, senior talent acquisition coordinator. “Madison is the perfect size. There are plenty of things to do, but you don’t have to deal with the traffic and crowds that come with living in a larger city.”
Many colleagues relocated to the area for roles at PPD, with their sights set on best-in-class training and the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical trials. They’re also quick to admit that another perk is the lab’s proximity to Madison’s array of extracurricular activities.
“This city is known for being an active, outdoors-minded community,” said Randy Skellenger, group leader. “Part of this is due to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and all the activities it attracts. Parks and trails are well-kept and attract visitors year-round.”
“My family loves boating on the lakes of Wisconsin,” said Peter Wunderli, associate director. “The photo of my daughter driving the boat perfectly captures the spirit of how we enjoy spending our weekends.”
The area features a variety of breweries and local eateries, ranging from farm-to-table to fine dining.
“The university campus has a host of famous spots, but the most popular is the Union Terrace,” said John Orlikowski, associate director. “It’s the perfect gathering spot for people to enjoy the view of Lake Mendota while sampling local beers. Or for me to wander over to Babcock Dairy to pick up some ice cream.”
“I enjoy watching sports with family and friends,” said Jonathon Salsbury, associate director. “Whether it’s the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers or the Milwaukee Bucks – they all draw big crowds!”
