Chief Medical Officer, PPD, and President, Evidera
Karen Kaucic, M.D., serves as the chief medical officer (CMO) of PPD and president of Evidera. As PPD's CMO, she is responsible to the CEO for all aspects of human safety in PPD’s clinical trial programs. In her role with Evidera, she provides strategic direction and operational oversight for the PPD business unit recognized as a global leader in real-world evidence and data analytics, health economics, patient-centered research and strategic consultation services in medical science, clinical development and market access.
Dr. Kaucic joined PPD in 2009, initially leading PPD® Consulting, PPD’s product development consulting group. Immediately before assuming leadership of Evidera, Dr. Kaucic led PPD’s early development business unit. Prior to joining PPD, Dr. Kaucic held positions of increasing responsibility in oncology clinical development at MedImmune AstraZeneca. There, she led product development teams for several biologic compounds across a range of oncology indications.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Kaucic was a staff pediatric oncologist and senior investigator at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where she established the institution’s first hematopoietic stem cell transplantation laboratory, served as an attending physician in oncology and conducted research funded by the National Institutes of Health in signal transduction in human neuroectodermal tumors.
Dr. Kaucic earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University followed by a pediatric residency at the same institution. She completed fellowships in pediatric hematology/oncology and transfusion medicine at Children’s National Medical Center and The Cleveland Clinic, respectively.
