Julia James, L.L.B., serves as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for PPD. In this position, she leads the company’s global corporate and contracts legal functions.
James joined PPD in 2005 in corporate finance. In 2006, she moved to the corporate legal team and took on increasing responsibility and leadership, initially in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific regions, followed by more expanded global leadership roles. In 2016, she assumed global responsibility for all client and vendor agreements.
With a background in international mergers and acquisitions, James has played a key role in PPD’s strategic acquisitions, including those in Russia, Eastern Europe and China. More recently, she was instrumental in the company’s joint venture with SNBL in Japan in 2014 and the acquisition of Evidera in 2016. Prior to PPD, she served for eight years as a corporate solicitor with Clifford Chance, a leading global law firm, based in London and Dubai.
James earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nottingham and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from Nottingham School of Law, and she is licensed to practice law in England and Wales.
