PPD Expertise Aids in Selection of Compounds

PPD uses effective management and expertise to expedite the selection of compounds for preclinical studies. In a recent example, PPD was presented with a small window of time to complete the selection process. Within the allotted time, PPD was able to:

  • scale up more than 100 compounds
  • determine purity and solubility
  • measure and score the toxicity

In addition, many of the compounds were subjected to in vivo studies. The in vivo studies and toxicity studies were compared and a thorough analysis yielded five promising compounds for further research. A large percentage of the 100 compounds tested were of high quality, but PPD expertise helped point out five promising targets. The client remarked that the final decision "was like splitting hairs, due to the numerous compounds worth pursuing."

This particular project was successfully completed by Piedmont Research Center. Piedmont Research Center is dedicated to the preclinical research and evaluation of anticancer agents.
