What I Do: At the beginning of a project, I gather information from the potential investigators. Once a site is selected, I help train the site staff on protocol and responsibilities, and provide training and support via mentoring and accompanied field visits. Finally, I work with investigators to ensure data are accurate and complete.
Career Path: I joined PPD in South Africa after my husband and I relocated from the United Kingdom. I started as a senior clinical research associate (CRA), then progressed to a clinical team manager position. After the birth of my daughter, I returned to work on a part-time basis as a senior CRA II. I appreciate the fact that PPD offers a flexible work schedule, which is a big benefit in a country where part-time work is not the norm.
What I like best about working at PPD: I enjoy the vast number of projects and sponsors I work with. No two are ever the same. You are not likely to be in one therapeutic area or with one sponsor for long! Co-workers are also supportive; there is normally always somebody in the office who can help with any query you may have.
The benefits of working at PPD include…it is a global company. I find it comforting that if we ever decide to move again, I would hopefully be able to keep working with PPD, even on a different continent, and thus have a small piece of consistency in my life amidst all the change.
More about me: I'm an English rose in Africa. Johannesburg is a great place to live, and my family loves having somewhere sunny to visit. Outside of work, most of my time is currently spent running after my gorgeous daughter, who is an active toddler! This keeps me fit, although I also enjoy running and Pilates, when time allows. I like keeping mentally fit; I am an avid reader of almost anything and love Sudoku puzzles. |
